“Ecosystems are the modules of life,” says Markus Möst. This biologist and winner of the FWF’s START award dedicates his research to water systems. What changes are due to evolutions and which are caused by climate change? Are there tipping points? These are the issues Möst explores by studying water fleas, a key organism in lakes. These small crustaceans control the growth of algae and serve as food for fish and their larvae.

Möst is convinced that the valuable human and animal habitats can only be preserved if we understand the workings of the finely balanced processes in nature.
