Cognitive biologist Alice Auersperg has been studying the behavior of Goffin's cockatoos, a parrot species is originally native to Indonesia, for many years, and has now set up her own lab in Vienna.

In the Goffin Lab at the Messerli Research Institute, the cockatoos crack the most difficult tasks by not only using tools, but also developing entire sets of them when needed to solve problems. Her research can help us draw conclusions about how the animals think and plan ahead, and findings are now also being applied to robots.
