Removing microplastics from the air
Microplastics are severely polluting the Earth’s ecosystem. By now, plastic particles are everywhere: not only in rivers and oceans, but also in the atmosphere. We don’t have extensive data yet on the amount of microplastics in the air. Bernadett Weinzierl, an aerosol and environmental physicist at the University of Vienna, is working on methods to measure the tiniest particles in the air and track their spread. Only by understanding how badly our atmosphere is polluted by microplastics can we develop sustainable measures to ensure clean air and improve the ecosystem.
